A waitress in Wisconsin received a Christmas surprise this year when a customer tipped her $1,000 on a $17 check.
Callie Blue works early every Christmas, waiting on tables at Gus’s Diner in Sun Prairie. This year, one of her customers was Michael Johnson, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, who has a history of paying it forward during the holidays.
“I talked to him about 45 minutes, I did not know who he was, this was his first time here and he tipped me a 1,000 before he left,” Blue said.
“At first I thought it was a total joke and then I realized it was real and I cried,” she added. “It was shocking and I’m really thankful for it.”
Johnson said he tries to make this time of year special for others because he knows what it’s like to struggle during the holidays.
“I was a kid who didn’t really like the holidays because I grew up in the projects and my mother just didn’t have much, so it was a holiday that I struggled with,” he said.
Blue said Johnson’s decision to give back every Christmas has helped change her view of the world.
