ALFRED, Maine (AP) — A woman accused of driving onto a Maine baseball field during a game and striking and killing a man before leaving the scene is scheduled to appear in court.
Police say 51-year-old Carol Sharrow, of Sanford, Maine, drove through an open gate at Goodall park onto a ballfield on Friday night. Screaming bystanders and ballplayers fled to get out of the way. Officials say she hit 68-year-old Douglas Parkhurst, of West Newfield, before attempting to speed away. Parkhurst died on the way to the hospital.
Sharrow faces a manslaughter charge. She was being held at the York County Jail on Monday and was scheduled to appear in court later in the day.
A jail official says she will be appointed an attorney in court.
