A woman was arrested on Monday after a police chase through Saugus that ended in a head-on crash.

A second suspect, Michael Gouthro, ran away after the car, a stolen 1989 Buick LeSabre, crashed.

Monday morning, State Police attempted to stop a stolen car on Route 1 in Saugus. The driver refused to stop and the car sped off down the Lynn Fells Parkway.

Minutes later, a witness notified State Police that the car had crashed and a man had run away.

Jacqueline Murphy, 32 of Revere, was found inside the vehicle and was arrested on wanted warrants.

Murphy and Gouthro are wanted in connection with an assault on a Revere police officer last week with a syringe.

Murphy was transported to a local hospital under police guard.

An active search is still underway for the man, Gouthro in the area of Route 1 and the Lynn Fells Parkway.

Crime scene investigators dusted for fingerprints on a woman’s car after Gouthro attempted to carjack her after getting out of Murphy’s car.

Murphy will be arraigned on Tuesday.
