QUINCY, MASS. (WHDH) - A woman accused of abusing a Quincy family’s dog and stealing from them while they were on vacation appeared in court Thursday.
Kitty Barker, of Lynn, was hired by the Hingston family to watch their 13-year-old dog Sully back in June while they went on vacation. Joe Hingston said when they returned, they found Sully covered in bruises and open wounds and living in filth. He also said their house was a mess and thousands of dollars in money and scratch tickets was missing.
Barker denied the charges and said she is being wrongfully accused. A Quincy magistrate found Hingston’s story believable and Barker was charged with animal cruelty, larceny and malicious destruction of property.
“Tears come to my eyes when I think about it. It’s just so sad what that dog is going through,” said Barker outside of court.
Hingston said Sully is doing much better now but he is still very angry with Barker. Hingston claimed Barker changed his bank account information and he is getting unwelcome credit card charges. He also said he found Barker’s ID in the basement, where she had no reason to be. Barker said she went into the basement after the air conditioner tripped a breaker in the house.
