A woman was killed after her car struck a pole in Worcester early Friday morning, according to police.

According to police, the crash occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Route 146.

The 23-year-old woman was traveling south on Route 146 on the off ramp when she lost control of her car. She struck a bullard, which is a steel pole used to protect structures.

After the crash, the woman called her boyfriend to come to the scene.

Her boyfriend then took the woman to his home, and called an ambulance. The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

According to police, the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital around 8:00 p.m. Friday night. Her identity has not yet been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
