MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) — New Hampshire State Police reportedly shot and killed 44-year-old Wendy Lawrence who led them on a car chase on I-93.
“I don’t think we'll ever know the truth, but I don't have a girlfriend anymore. All I have is a little dog to remember her by,” said Charles Peter, girlfriend killed by police.
Reportedly the chase started on Interstate 93. Police say the woman exited the interstate and drove through a quiet Manchester neighborhood. The chase came to an end near Kennard Street in Manchester where police reportedly opened fire. Neighbors were sitting down to dinner when they heard the round of gunfire around 6:30 p.m.
“It just sounded like a clip being unloaded,” said Bob Britton.
"There was a pursuit that eventually ended here in Manchester. When it did end an officer discharged his weapon and an adult female was killed. Beyond that I can't say anything else," said Jeff Strelzin, Senior Asst. Attorney general.
Investigators said at least one state trooper opened fire on the car shooting and killing the woman inside.
Investigators with the attorney general's office would not say what the woman did to prompt the state trooper to open fire but there was a cruiser damaged in the chase. Investigators are not saying at this point what started the chase up in the Bo area but promised a thorough investigation into the incident.
