WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Police say a Rhode Island woman has been shot through the front door of her own home by a homeless man she had previously taken in.

The woman was taken to the hospital with arm injuries not considered life threatening after she was shot through the glass door of her Warwick home at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the gunfire came from a vacant home across the street. The suspect, 37-year-old Richard Wade, was captured nearby and was reportedly uncooperative and appeared intoxicated.

Wade faces several charges including assault with a deadly weapon. He appeared in court Wednesday and was held without bail on a probation violation. He was referred to the public defender’s office.

Police Col. Stephen McCartney says Wade had stayed at the victim’s home in the past.
