A man suspected in connection with a theft at a Worcester Jewelry store has been arrested after he allegedly returned to the scene to get his cellphone.
On Monday, April 25, a Worcester Police Officer responded to a larceny call at City Jewelry on Main Street.
The officer received information that one of the two suspects that had run away from the store with some jewelry had returned and was trying to get his cell phone back after he had left it behind.
According to police, the owner of the store locked the door to prevent the suspect from getting to his phone.
The officer saw a man fitting a description by the owner walking on Main Street near a convenience store.. The officer approached the man and asked if she could talk to him. He said yes, and then ran away.
Officers chased the man through the Worcester Common and eventually caught up with him.
Leshawn Parrish, 34 of Boston, resisted arrest but was eventually subdued.
According to police, security footage showed Parrish distracting the owner so a second suspect could reach over the counter and grab a tray of silver and gold chains. The owner was unaware of the theft until a witness told him. The witness aid the two suspects were seen splitting the chains outside the store.
Officers found three separate containers of marijuana, a scale and $805 inside Parrish’s backpack.
Parrish was charged with larceny in a building, disturbing the peace. resisting arrest and possession of a class D substance with intent to distribute.
Parrish is set to be arraigned Tuesday.
