WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) - A Worcester Police officer was arrested after police said he allegedly requested and received reimbursement for 150 off-duty assignments at five businesses he hadn’t worked.
On July 21, the department learned of “possible criminal activity” involving officer Colby Turner’s off-duty assignments. The Detective Bureau assigned to investigate the allegations developed probable cause to believe the allegations.
Police obtained a warrant on August 1 for his arrest, charging him with five felony county of larceny over $1,200 by single scheme and the misdemeanor of submitting false claims for reimbursement. He was arrested at the WPD station.
Turner, a five-year employee of the Worcester Police Department, is currently on administrative leave and the Massachusetts commission charged with police oversight was notified of the incident. The department said it is likely an isolated incident, but will still review its policies and procedures for off-duty assignments and will conduct and internal and external audit.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces, and will be due back in court in September.
