WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) - A 68-year-old man is facing numerous assault charges after he allegedly injured several police officers and struck a cruiser with his car, according to the Worcester Police Department.

Officials said it was 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when police were called to a business over reports of a former employee trespassing there. According to the caller, the individual had also been urinating on the doors of the business’s garage by 360 Franklin Street.

Police soon identified the man as Alfred Miron, 68, of West Boylston, who was reportedly part of a no trespassing order filed with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the police department, officers tried to speak with Miron, who refused to respond while also refusing to exit his vehicle parked outside of the garage. He then allegedly started his vehicle and put it into reverse, striking a police cruiser in the process.

An officer was then dragged by Miron’s vehicle when he put the vehicle into drive, before then putting it into reverse to hit the cruiser again.

After the officer freed himself, the suspect was able to speed out of the parking lot, leading to a pursuit as Miron maneuvered onto I-290 East before exiting onto Plantation Street.

Driving on the wrong side of the road and almost hitting another cruiser, Worcester Police said Miron eventually crashed into another vehicle at the intersection with Lincoln Street after failing to stop at a red light.

Allegedly attacking another officer in the process, Miron was apprehended after officers closed in and worked to remove him from the vehicle.

Charges against the 68-year-old man include:

  • Three counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
  • Willful and Malicious Destruction of Property
  • Trespassing
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Leaving the Scene of Property Damage
  • Operating Recklessly So as to Endanger and Failure to Stop for Police

Following the pursuit, Miron was taken to a hospital for his injuries.

The police department said a total of three officers were injured as well, with two needing medical care at a hospital. All three were treated and later released.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash on Lincoln Street was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.
