An American veteran from World War II and his wartime girlfriend are spending Valentine’s Day together following a reunion after more than 70 years.

Norwood Thomas, 93, flew from Virginia to Australia to meet Joyce Morris, who is now 88, reconnecting with his long lost love.

The pair saw each other for the first time since 1945.

They first met in London shortly before D-Day.

Morris was a 17-year-old Brit and Thomas was a 21-year-old paratrooper.

They lost touch after the war, but finally reconnected via Skype in 2015.

After their story went public, a fundraising campaign helped raise money for Thomas to travel to Australia to see Morris.

"It was a nice feeling to see this woman that I hadn’t seen in 70 years," he said. "Of course, there was a great difference in appearance, but there’s a big difference in my appearance too."

Morris said she wished their paths had crossed earlier and that she would have had a different, but probably happier, life.
