All lanes are back open after a head-on collision on 128 NB in Lexington Tuesday morning.
The accident was caused by a driver going the wrong way down the road.
Around 4:15 a.m., State Police responded to a wrong-way crash on Route 128 northbound in Lexington.
According to police, a preliminary investigation shows the crash was caused by a vehicle driving southbound on the northbound side.
The two vehicles involved in the crash are a 2008 Hyundai Accent and a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt.
The driver of the Hyundai was a 20-year-old Wayland woman and the driver of the Cobalt was a 27-year-old Dracut man. Both were transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington for treatment of serious injuries. There were no other occupants in either car.
The investigation into which vehicle was traveling the wrong way is ongoing.
All northbound lanes were closed for about two hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
