MASHPEE, MASS. (WHDH) - A 7-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries after a crash in Mashpee on Wednesday.

According to police, just before 4 p.m. they responded to the intersection of Route 130 and Juniper Road for the report of a pedestrian struck by a car.

When officers arrived they found the girl, who had been struck by a car while riding her bike. Neighbors said the girl was with a group of friends crossing the street at a crosswalk.

The girl was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The driver of the car, a 56-year-old man, was also transported to the hospital with stress-related issues due to the crash.

“It’s traumatic for everyone,” said Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline. “It’s traumatic for the officers who responded, they all have children, I have a 7-year-old myself. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the victim at this time.”

Route 130 was shut down for several hours between South Sandwich Road and Great Neck Road North. The crash remains under investigation.
