NEWTON, MASS. (WHDH) - Aly Raisman’s biggest fans cheered her on from Newton’s Excel Gymnastics Thursday night.
Young gymnasts dreaming of gold medals gathered to watch one of their heroes soar to new heights.
“We like Aly,” one of the young gymnasts said. “She’s so good at gymnastics, she went to Excel of course, and Excel really gave her good stuff to learn.”
Raisman got her start at the Newton gym.
“We’re so proud to be part of something big like that,” said.
One young gymnast from Raisman’s current gym, Brestyan’s in Burlington, put her hair in a Raisman bun and held tight to a leotard Raisman autographed, in the hopes of sending positive vibes.
Rooting for Raisman while practicing their own routines, there’s little doubt she’d take home a prize.
Raisman left with silver, but she’s second to none with her home base.
Excel Gym has seen positive changes since Raisman’s rise to fame. They saw a 25 percent increase in gymnasts after Raisman’s London 2012 appearance and expect similar results this year.
