RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (WHDH) - America’s golden girls sat down with 7’s Nancy Chen in Rio de Janeiro to talk about their experiences at this year’s Olympics and also about their friendship.
The “Final Five” team took home their second straight gold medal and the individual gymnasts have been collecting medals of their own in other events. The team also received another honor – the gymnastic team will adorn the cover of Kellogg’s cereal boxes.
The girls said they consider themselves friends and said they are having lots of fun in Rio, something that surprised them.
“I think with all the pressure you get nervous that you aren’t going to enjoy it,” said Needham native Aly Raisman. “We are having the time of our lives, it’s been an incredible experience with one another.”
They are also proud that their hours of hard work paid off in Rio, with Simone Biles saying, “I don’t think any of us has ever been more prepared in our lives.” The girls are also proud to be role models to many aspiring young gymnasts back home.
“I think so many little girls look up to us,” said Madison Kocian. “I think it’s just so special to be here at the Olympics with all of these amazing girls and we got the job done and we got our gold, so there’s going to be a lot of little girls coming up to us. It’s going to be really fun when we get home.”
The girls will compete next week in their individual events.
