After China defeated Germany in the women’s team gold medal match Tuesday evening, all eyes now turn to the men’s finals. South Korea takes on Germany in the bronze medal match Wednesday morning, while Japan squares off with China in the final later that evening.
The bronze medal match is slated to get underway at 10:00 AM ET. Germany, who were knocked off by Japan in the semifinal, had previously dropped a line in each match against Chinese Taipei and Austria. South Korea, who fell to China, did them one better, losing just a lone line in their quarterfinal victory over Sweden. Germany is still seeking their first ever men’s team medal in table tennis.
Later in the day is the main event, the gold medal match between China and Japan. The Chinese, seeking their third straight gold medal in the competition, haven’t yet lost a line on their march to the final. Japan, on the other hand, barely escaped Poland in the first round, before they converted 3-1 wins over Hong Kong and Germany.
