Gold: Elaine Thompson (Jamaica)
Silver: Dafne Schippers (Netherlands)
Bronze: Tori Bowie (United States)
Elaine Thompson won the 200m gold medal, four days after winning the 100m gold medal. She became the first female sprinter to sweep the 100m and 200m since Florence Griffith Joyner in 1988.
Thompson shook her head in disbelief after crossing the line in 21.78 seconds.
Dafne Schippers, who was considered a heptathlete up to last year, finished .1 seconds later.
Torie Bowie earned the bronze medal. She is from Sand Hill, Miss., a town so small that it doesn’t have any stoplights.
Bowie was also the silver medalist in the 100m, and she is not done yet. She is in the relay pool for the 4x100m, which gets underway tomorrow morning.
U.S. sprinter Deajah Stevens finished seventh.
The men’s 200m final will be held Thursday at 9:30 p.m. ET. Usain Bolt will race for her third consecutive Olympic 200m gold medal.
