Gold: Christoph Harting (Germany)
Silver: Piotr Malachowski (Poland)
Bronze: Daniel Jasinski (Germany)

Germany’s Christoph Harting won the Olympic discus throw gold medal on Saturday, four years after his older brother Robert won the same title.

Poland’s Piotr Malachowski, the 2015 world champion, led through the first five attempts. Then on the sixth and final attempt, Christoph threw a personal-best 68.37m (224 feet, 3 ¾ inches) to claim the lead.

Christoph danced after winning his gold medal, but his celebration was mild compared to when Robert memorably ripped off his shirt after being crowned champion in London.

“Extroverts want to be seen,” Christoph said to the Associated Press. “I am an introvert and feel very uncomfortable here.”

Robert also competed in Rio, but he failed to advance to the final.

U.S. discus thrower Mason Finley finished 11th. Andrew Evans and Tavis Bailey did not advance to the final.

Christoph won in a similar manner as U.S. shot putter Michelle Carter, who claimed the gold medal on her final throw Friday night.
