Argentina locks up one of the top seeds in Pool B

Argentina went out and swept Egypt (25-16, 25-19, 25-20) in the first match Monday, finishing the preliminary round with 12 points and a guaranteed spot of being either the No. 1 or 2 seed from Pool B for the quarterfinals.

The sixth-ranked team in the world turned in a 4-1 record in prelims, winning 12 of 16 sets in Rio.

Egypt, meanwhile, had no shot of advancing to the quarterfinals regardless of Monday’s result. They finished with three points total and went 3-12 in the 15 sets across five matches.

Every match Egypt was involved in during its time in Rio was a sweep.
