RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (WHDH) - The world’s fastest man held onto his title. Usain Bolt became the first man to ever win the 100m dash at the Olympics three times in a row.

American Justin Gatlin was thought to be the only man who could challenge Bolt for the title.

For a few seconds, it looked like it might happen.

Simone Biles soared to her third gold of the games.

The 19-year-old took the top spot in the women’s vault final.

Biles is now the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history at Worlds and Olympic competitions.

“I’m so excited that I met my own expectations,” said Biles.

Her teammate, Madison Kocian, came in second place in the women’s uneven bars.

Gabby Douglas came in seventh after struggling to stay on the high bar during a handstand.

The U.S. also collected a medal in men’s gymnastics. Alex Naddour earned bronze on the pommel horse. He was the first American since 1984 to earn a medal in the event.
