Being crowned Olympic champion in sailing is one of the most prestigious awards as a competitive sailor. 

Dreams were relived for defending champions, such as the Kiwi duo, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. 

At the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, however, many sailing dreams came true for first-time Olympians, including Team USA’s Caleb Paine, who won the first Olympic sailing medal for the U.S. since the 2008 Beijing Games, and Australia’s Tom Burton, who risked it all for a slight chance at gold, but his reward was golden.
