SOUTH BERWICK, Maine (WHDH)– A young Red Sox fan from Maine got the surprise of her life when she got a personal phone call from her favorite player, Jackie Bradley Jr.

Sarah Bevan, 11, said she became a fan of Bradley’s when she attended a game in 2015 and saw how he interacted with his teammates.

“When other people went up, he congratulated them and said good job and just seemed really nice,” said Sarah.

Back in August, Sarah went to a public event in Boston where Bradley autographed her homemade fan poster and a baseball. She then decided to write him a fan letter. She said she was inspired by her grandfather, who used to write fan letters to athletes. Sarah wrote a letter to Bradley that included pictures she drew and photos. She also included her phone number.

Two days ago, Bradley responded with a voicemail, where he thanked Sarah for the letter and pictures. He also left his own personal number so the two could talk.

“I wanted to write him a letter and see if he’d reply but I never knew he’d actually call me,” said Sarah.

Sarah said she got nervous when she talked with Bradley so her father spoke to him as well. Bradley also offered to show Sarah and her family around Fenway if they made it down to Boston next season.

“He’s very nice and kind and he seems to care a lot about other people,” said Sarah.
