An Australian race walker received his 2012 Olympic gold medal Friday after the original gold medalist lost his award for doping.

Nearly four years late, Jared Tallent finally got to take home the gold.

Tallent came in second in London in the 50-kilometer (31-mile) walk, and got a silver medal.

But after the Russian doping scandal, the court of arbitration for sport disqualified the athlete who got the original gold medal.

That cleared the way for the head of Australia’s Olympic Committee to present Tallent with the gold.

He got his medal, a 2016 Olympic team blazer and a medal of the order of Australia in a ceremony in Melbourne.

“I just can’t believe this day has finally finally happened,” Tallent said. “Unfortunately I didn’t get to stand on the podium in London all those days ago, but coming here to Melbourne so close to home, only a hundred kilometers from where I grew up on a potato farm, this has just made it absolutely special.”

Tallent was elevated to first place after Sergei Kirdyapkin got caught up in the Russian track and field doping scandal.
