FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) - Coaches spend a lot of time trying to figure out their opponent’s game plan. Bills coach Rex Ryan tried a new tactic – ask them directly.

Ryan crashed the Patriots’ conference call on Wednesday, impersonating a reporter, and asked Julian Edelman about the Patriots’ quarterback options this weekend.

“Hey this is, uh, Walt Patulski from the Buffalo News,” Ryan says to Edelman. “Are you playing quarterback this week?”

Edelman didn’t hear the question at first, so “Patulski” asked again.

Edelman responds by saying he’ll do anything coach says. “You gotta ask coach that one,” he finally says.

“Alright, Julian, I will, buddy,” Ryan says, laughing.

You can see the full exchange below.

Though it was a light-hearted exchange, there are NFL rules against coaches communicating with players on other teams during the season, so don’t be surprised if the Bills head coach faces a fine at some point.
