ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WHDH) – A Connecticut man is recovering at home after getting hit in the head with a broken baseball bat at Fenway Park.

Kevin Sweeney said he did not see it coming when the broken bat went over the safety net and struck him in the head during the first inning. Sweeney was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where he got 10 stitches in his head. He said the Red Sox reached out to him while he was being treated and gave him a signed baseball bat.

Tonya Carpenter, who suffered a severe head injury at Fenway last year when she was hit was a broken bat, said the safety changes are still not enough.

“Although Tonya is gratified that netting has at least been extended to the dugouts, there are serious questions regarding the decision by MLB and the Red Sox to limit the protection for the patrons,” Carpenter said in a statement.
