The San Diego Padres have announced former Red Sox broadcaster Don Orsillo will begin broadcasting select Padres games on TV and radio in 2016 and assume a larger role in 2017.

New England Sports Network chose to not renew Orsillo’s contract to broadcast Sox games this year.

Orsillo will begin as the Padres primary play-by-play announcer for television broadcasts in 2017, according to the Padres.

Orsillo will replace current play-by-play announcer Dick Enberg, who plans to retire after the 2016 season, according to the Padres.

"We are excited to add Don to our broadcast lineup," Padres President and CEO Mike Dee said in a statement. "Over his 15 years broadcasting Major League Baseball, Don has established himself as one of the premier play-by-play men in the game. We look forward to both his fun-loving personality and outstanding play-calling ability resonating with Padres fans during what we expect will be a very long career in San Diego."
