Some of David Ortiz’s famous fans here in Boston said it will be hard to imagine the Red Sox without Big Papi.
Bruins right winger and Dorchester native Jimmy Hayes is a big Red Sox fan and said he hopes Ortiz ends his career with a bang.
"Would be cool to see Big Papi have a good year, he’s already off to a really good start, a couple of home runs already, it’s nice," said Hayes. Bruins center Frank Vatrano agreed and congratulated Ortiz on his career.
Gov. Charlie Baker, who has been a Red Sox fan since he was 10 years old, said fans owe a lot to Ortiz.
"As someone who is a long-suffering, multi-generaltion family that waited and waited and waited for the Red Sox to win a championship, my message would be there’s probably no one that a long-suffering Red Sox fan owes more to than we owe to David Ortiz," said Baker. "There’s no way we win those three World Series without him and I’m really going to miss him."
