The Rio 2016 Olympics have raised hotel prices in the city to be almost three times higher than usual, based on figures from travel consulting firm, Expedia.

According to the data, the average room price in Rio de Janeiro has risen to 284 dollars during the event, which will run from August 5th to the 21st this year, while the price is normally around 97 dollars. 

The upcoming Olympics are expected to attract 400-thousand tourists from around the world who will fill nearly all of Rio de Janerio’s 60-thousand hotels.

The general manager of the newly built Hilton Barra, which is located close to the nine-venue Barra Olympic Park in the west of the city, said all room types from regular through to presidential suites are already sold out.
