Rugby player Jillion Potter will be making her Olympic debut in Rio, along with her sport.

Rio marks the debut for rugby sevens at the summer Olympics.

The sport has not been featured in the Olympics since 1924 when it was played as rugby union.

Five years ago, playing on the U.S. national team, the 30-year-old Potter suffered an injury that not only threatened her career but could have paralyzed her.

The Austin, Texas-native recovered from the injury but was stricken by cancer in 2015.

Potter fought it off, and now says she’s fit to play.
