FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) - New England Patriot and Olympian Nate Ebner is back in Foxborough and talking for the first time about his experience playing rugby in the Olympics.

Ebner was given time off by the Patriots to fulfill his dream of playing rugby for Team USA in Rio de Janeiro. The Patriots player did not stick around for Sunday’s Closing Ceremony, instead coming home early to get back into football shape. While his rugby team did not medal, Ebner called the Olympics a “cool experience.”

“I fully committed to the rugby team and once that job was completed, I came here,” Ebner said after practice Sunday.

Ebner worked on his conditioning on his own Sunday while the Patriots held three joint practices with the Chicago Bears. He is expected to be back on track in time for Friday night’s preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.
