BOSTON (WHDH) - A young David Ortiz fan from Wyoming got a chance to meet his favorite baseball player Wednesday at Fenway Park.

Maverick, 6, has a rare heart defect that has resulted in more than 30 surgeries in his life. He is set to undergo another in a few weeks.

Ortiz first reached out to Maverick last month on Twitter, when he recorded a video message encouraging his young fan to stay positive. He also promised to hit him a home run for Maverick and delivered that night. Maverick made a video in return, thanking Ortiz for the home run.

Maverick and his family visited Fenway Park on Wednesday, where he got to watch batting practice from the field and meet Big Papi himself. Maverick told Ortiz, “You never let me down, Big Papi.”

Maverick also got to throw out the first pitch to Ortiz himself.
