The New England Revolution says forward Charlie Davis is in remission after receiving treatment for cancer.
The Revolution made the following statement Saturday:
Today, New England Revolution forward Charlie Davies shared that earlier this spring he was diagnosed and treated for liposarcoma and that he is now in remission. It was important for Charlie to concentrate on his family and treatment during the past few weeks and the club honored his wish for privacy. The New England Revolution will continue to support him through full recovery and are looking forward to seeing him back out on the pitch. The former U.S. national team forward told team officials of his diagnosis for liposarcoma earlier this spring. The team said it has honored Davies’ wishes for privacy over the past few weeks to allow him to spend time with family and receive treatment.
Davies has appeared in eight games this season for the Revolution, scoring one goal. He has not appeared in a game for New England since April 27. He previously missed a year of soccer while recovering from a car accident in 2009.
Davis has 17 caps for the U.S national team and was a member of the 2008 Olympic team.
