Two people were struck by a car in the parking lot of a Stop & Shop on Grove Street in Braintree Friday afternoon and a child was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Witnesses described an older woman losing control of her car and hitting up to six other cars. Two men were injured and a child was being checked out at a local hospital. EMTs from Brewster transported the victims.
The two men were hit by a woman who lost control of her car. One of them had a broken leg, but it did not appear the injuries were life-threatening.
A nurse who lives nearby heard the sirens and went to the Stop & Shop to check out the scene.
“There was a lady that was up to here and that was the first car. She hit somebody pulling out, and then they hit five other cars coming down, hit them pretty well, too. And then two people were coming out from Stop & Shop, two pedestrians, and they got hit,” said witness Denise Parigian. “It was horrible. It really was, I felt so bad. The last one they took off was a little boy.
Parigian said the elderly driver appeared to be shaken by the experience and stayed right in her car as police investigated.
Six cars were towed away from the scene. Police and the fire department are investigating the incident, which happened just after 3 p.m. The scene was cleared by 4 p.m.
There was no word on any charges for the driver nor on the condition of the people who were hit.
