That was the question I got today from a co-worker when I gave him the very wet forecast that is in store for Father’s Day:  “But can I swim?”  I laughed out loud (and no, I won’t write “I lol’ed” in this blog, because every time I see “lol” anywhere, I judge a little).  I asked my co-worker, “Swim?”  He said, “Yes.  You always swim on the first day of summer!”  Ahhh… Yes… Tomorrow is a big day for a couple of reasons; to celebrate good ol’ Dad and to kick off summer (officially).  Well, your plans may be changing a little with this forecast… Either Mother Nature doesn’t have the best relationship with her father (would that be Grandpappy Nature?)  OR Ma Nature just has a great sense of humor and she’s kicking off summer with a SPLASH!

What’s left of Post-Tropical Storm Bill is moving in our direction.  This is what is going to turn Sunday into a soaker.  The National Weather Service has already issued a Flood Watch for SE Mass and the Cape, which will go into effect at 4:00am Sunday and stay in place until the afternoon/evening.  We’re expecting a whole lot of rain in a very short amount of time.  This means ponding on roads is likely – and street flooding could be an issue in many spots.

Some moderate to heavy rain could start as early as 1am.  Through this event, most areas will pick up between 1-2″ of rain, with some areas getting up to 3″.  Again, it’s a lot of water in a short amount of time.  Downpours are most likely (and widespread) from 7am to 2pm.  We could even hear some rumbles of thunder, though strong storms are not expected tomorrow.  The heaviest rainfall is most likely south of the Pike – which again, is where the Flood Watch will be in place tomorrow during this time frame.  Please remember this important weather tip: “Turn around.  Don’t drown.”  You never know how deep that puddle is that you intend to drive through.  I would say, if you can make your plans with Dad indoor plans… and see this rain through from the comfort of your own home – do so.  There may be better weather coming late in the day…

It seems that a very common theme for Father’s Day is being able to cook dinner on the grill.  Makes sense.  Don’t worry, not all is lost!  Grillin’ and chillin’ could be in the late-day forecast!  Yes, it’ll be soggy outside, but I do think that by the time we get to the late afternoon and early evening hours we could even see some breaks of sunshine!  Tomorrow is, after-all, the longest day of the year… So, we might as well fit in a few different rounds of weather before the day is done.  By 4 or 5pm, the show is over!  Crack open a cold one, and take those well-marinated steaks out for a sizzle on the grill.  Heck… it’s gonna be a long day for me tomorrow too.  So, if you don’t mind, throw one on for me!

Happy Father’s Day everyone!  – Breezy
