Amanda Burnett is known to step up to a challenge.
The Hamilton Wenham Regional High School junior has Type 1 diabetes, and that doesn’t stop her.
"I struggle with diabetes, and I have many friends that struggle with it, just makes you want to go out there and do something about it, and do a Cure," said Burnett.
She’s biked hundreds of miles with her dad for the American Diabetes Association, raising awareness and thousands of dollars on the Tour de Cure.
Everyday, Amanda has to check her blood sugar levels, and when she’s riding, she has to be extra careful.
"It’s hard, it’s New England. There are a ton of hills and it’s hard managing diabetes, and know when my blood sugar is low or high,
Last year, she biked 550 miles across four New England states, and it took a week.
Amanda will ride again in the Tour de Cure, this time she’ll bike 150 miles with her dad.
