Class Act:
Kelly Skelton, Shawsheen Valley Technical Institute
Nominated by:
Kathleen Skelton
Nomination Story:
I am nominating my son, not so much to spotlight him, but an event that he has coordinated for cancer research fundraising. He has spent much of his middle school and high school years raising funds for cancer research. He even started a club, The Skelton Cohere Club, to help him organize teams for events throughout the years. But this event is a great story about kids doing good. So many people complain about the youth and their character. In spite of several obstacles, a teenager has stuck with a commitment to create an event and make a small difference in the world.
The event is a musical concert featuring Voices of Hope and will raise money through his ticket sales, donations, sponsorships and raffle baskets that Kelly has collected himself. He will be selling jewelry that another teenager from Maine, Sally Johnson, creates on her own. Kelly met Sally when they were both Mass General Hospital theonehundredclub honorees in 2012.
Kelly has organized to honor two individuals from our community who are battling cancer with special tributes at this event.
The event is a great story about the good in our communities and this story started in the heart of a high school student.
