For seven years, President Obama’s biggest fan has been…President Obama!

Tonight was no different.

Despite declaring Washington politics broken, the way the president sees it, you can still start measuring him for Mount Rushmore:

"We made change work for us," said President Obama, "always extending America’s promise outward, to the next frontier, to more and more people. And because we did – because we saw opportunity where others saw only peril – we emerged stronger and better than before."

But the problem for the president is that Americans don’t see America the way he does.

More than half the country–51%–disapprove of his performance in office. While less than half–45%–approve.

Worse for President Obama, only 25% think the country is headed in the right direction. While 65% think it’s on the wrong track, a number so big it must include Democrats.

President Obama was elected promising hope and change.

Polls now say the change a majority of Americans are hoping for is in the White House.

I’m Andy Hiller, that’s my instinct.
