Temperatures soared for Mother’s Day. Last night many people were asking me if Sunday would be a good beach day. Was it? I imagine there were people scattered all over our coastal communities with highs in the upper 80s! On days like today, I get a lot of mixed feelings via social media; some like it hot, and some don’t. If you can’t stand the heat, wait until Monday.
Overnight temps will stay very mild (in the 60s), and the fog will settle back around Buzzard’s Bay, the Cape and islands. This is the beginning of a very tricky temp forecast for Monday. While I have illustrated a low temp of 62° on the 7on7 extended forecast, 62° really won’t be the technical low for the day in many coastal communities (hang on, I’ll explain). The clouds stick around for the better part of Monday with some peaks of sun, and another backdoor cold front is on the way in. It will be a warm and muggy start with temps warming a touch to the 70s in the morning, and then an afternoon temp crash will have people along the North Shore scratching their heads – wondering where summer disappeared to. Cape Ann will be the first to feel the chill, and in the afternoon temps will be in the 50s and 60s, mainly from Boston’s coastline, north along the coast. So, if you’re located NE of an imaginary line from Pepperell to Marshfield, you might want to bring a jacket along with you for the later hours of Monday. You won’t need it in the morning, but you might regret it if you forget that extra layer.
Tuesday is another warm and muggy day. We’ve all been watching Ana along the coast of the Carolinas… well, she’s losing steam and is now a Tropical Depression with max wind speeds only at 35mph. Ana will continue to track NE over the next couple of days and pass to our east on Tuesday. Really, Ana will not be an issue for us. There is however, a cold front that will move through on Tuesday afternoon. This could fire up some thunderstorms and showers.
If you felt today like summer came too soon, never fear. After highs in the low 80s on Tuesday, temps will fall back to more seasonable levels through the end of the week. Looks like 60s for most, and possibly 70 on Friday. We should also stay dry through Saturday.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend and your time with Mom today!! Happy Mother’s Day to all of those ladies in our lives that have the hardest job on the planet. We love you, Mom. – Breezy
