RAYNHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - A sheriff’s vehicle was struck early Thursday morning by a suspected drunk driver in Raynham.

The incident occurred on Route 24 North near Exit 13A.

Officials said the sheriff was on a detail in a construction zone when the vehicle was struck by a 2007 Jeep Compass at approximately 3:15 a.m.  The female officer was in the vehicle with her seat belt fastened when she was rear-ended. The sheriff was not hurt in the crash.

The driver has been identified by Massachusetts State Police as Maria Nunes-Daviega, 29 of Brockton. The woman has been charged with OUI. The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Nunes-Daviega had a clean driving record, and said another car cut her off before she crashed.

The incident is the third in a construction or detail this week. On Tuesday, a worker was killed on Route 93 in Medford. On Monday, a MassDOT worker was struck just outside the Ted Williams Tunnel.
