It may be the unofficial start of summer, but the frost advisories and freeze warnings for tomorrow morning are giving us flashbacks to spring. (See pics to the right.)
Yes, you may have to cover the plants around Worcester’s suburbs and along Rt. 2 (beyond 495), but this cold will not hold through the holiday weekend. It lasts just long enough to keep Saturday’s temperatures in the low and mid 60s, but it’s out by Sunday – allowing the temperatures to recover into the 70s.
The late-breaking weather news of the day: Monday isn’t all that bad. Yesterday I was biting my nails about the threat for some showers in the afternoon. I’m not as anxious about them now as the models show much of them drying up as they approach. That said, I see a lot of clouds and a slight risk at a passing shower in the afternoon through mostly Central Mass. and Southwest NH.
That’s it, That’s the biggest issue. Not too shabby considering the other Memorial Day weekends we’ve weathered. Some washouts, some cold and dry, some windy and showery. Take this on and run.
Heat is on the horizon. Next week, the big, burly Bermuda High will park itself off the Eastern Seaboard and pump 80s and 90s into New England. This will be mid summer stuff folks. Get the A/Cs, fans and window screens ready. We’re going in.
Hopefully, storms will fire each afternoon, but at this point, I think they will favor spots outside of 128 and north of the Pike. We’ll have to see how it sets up in the days ahead.
Be well, take care, be kind on the roads and watch for motorcycles, bikes and pedestrians this weekend!
