Weekend is upon us! While today was bogged down in high clouds – which made cool looking sun halos…

…we managed to make the 70s in a few spots. That was an accomplishment considering a steady sea breeze along the coast (where we only made upper 60s.)
If it’s been a while since you checked in, the weekend forecast is much improved. Earlier in the week, I was sinking the temperatures on Sunday into the 50s, and Saturday was awash with numerous showers. But now we postponed the backdoor cool front for Monday, and the Saturday forecast is now a lot of clouds and very few showers. Temps have been boosted too, from 50s and 60s to 70s to near 80 (by Sunday, at least).
Pays to check back on the forecast in these changing times. Funny thing is, the pattern really hasn’t switched up much in the past week. It’s just adjusted a bit to allow for warmer temperatures. And of course, the current drought is making it easier.
What do I mean by that? Soil moisture is a huge driver in regional climate. Dry soils both cool and warm quickly. Cumulatively, it can have a big influence on temperatures. As we continue to dry, it will be easier to warm up on sunny days. Watch this carefully through the hot season.
Be safe, watch for motorcycles, bikes and pedestrians and enjoy your weekend.
