Yowza…….Baby, it IS cold outside. Temps are near 20 but wind chills are either side of zero early this evening and they will only fall overnight. Those wind chills will likely bottom out between -10 and -20 early tomorrow morning. Wind chills near -20 is dangerous as exposed flesh is prone to frostbite after 30 minutes. Layer up tonight & early tomorrow morning–and don’t forget about your pets too!
The actual temps will not be as cold as what we dealt with this past Valentine’s Day. On that day, temps dipped to -9 in Boston…-16 in Worcester (essentially wiping out our peaches for this summer). Tonight’s cold will not be that cold as most towns are just above zero. Boston around +4 but Worcester could fall as low as -2 (that would tie a record for Worcester, Boston’s record is -1). Record or no record, Friday is bitterly cold but at least that wind will slacken by afternoon.
Then we focus on our next storm. It’s a two part storm and the first part will be messy as the storm will try (and succeed) at dislodging the arctic air. This does mean snow tho–even for downtown Boston. The storm arrives around 5-6am Saturday and hits the *pause* button by 12-1pm. We all see snow early Saturday morning but the switch to rain and how long it takes will determine how much snow. As of now it looks like 2-4″ for a lot of us (Boston around 3″) with higher amounts (4-5″ out by Worcester, Fitchburg and Nashua). Messy travel likely Saturday morning, by evening just pockets of drizzle. Part two of the storm is Sunday morning but it’s plain rain for us as temps soar to 50! Cold comes right back by late Sunday night tho.
Stay warm (and classy)
