Something is better than nothing. Early morning rain quickly moved through the area with most towns picking up ~.30″ of rain. Far from drought busting but every little bit does help. For the year we–as in much of the northeast–are running around a 5-10″ deficit:

Yikes! Obviously, picking up that much rain in a few days is too much of a good thing and would lead to serious flooding but at the same time, with only 0.3″ of rain, this drought would last for decades. Neither will happen but we do have some more rain in the forecast.  It will be from a storm way out in the Ohio River Valley that will park itself there for a few days before heading this way over the weekend.

Tomorrow, that storm is located in Indiana/Ohio and drifting south:

In that position it’s too far away to bring any significant rain for us but the storm’s reach is impressive. That Low–way out there–will still be able to scrape some moisture off the Atlantic and heave it into New England in the form of clouds and some pockets of drizzle & mist. Nuisance rain really as the amounts are paltry but enough where having the rain gear is a good idea. The wind is not only scraping moisture off the Atlantic but also setting us up for several days of cool, breezy conditions with most towns likely seeing their temps behave more like the end of October than the end of September (upper 50s). Thursday is nearly a repeat….less patchy drizzle and a little more sun.

Friday, the weather map will look like this:

With our little friend, Low Pressure a smidge closer. As for weather….plan on more cool temps, a northeast breeze adding a cool feel to the air and by days end, some rain heading up this way. I think Friday evening and into the weekend will offer the best chance of rain to the region as that storm approaches. It still doesn’t look like widespread, heavy rain but certainly better than pockets of drizzle & mist. Not the greatest of weekends for outdoor activities but some dry weather–especially Sunday.
