How about that rain yesterday?! Finally a good soaking for some towns as a number of locations picked up over 1″ of water. With that said, other towns did have under 0.25″, so not all of us saw a good dose. The highest totals tended to favor locations north of Boston like Beverly, MA and Pelham, NH picking up nearly 1.7″ of rain.
Now we switch our focus to the heat and humidity. Is your A/C blasting in the house this morning? Notice the windows either fogged up or dripping with dew? You can thank the high humidity for that. With dewpoints running around 75 degrees this morning, if your house air temp is below that value, the high humidity (water vapor) that bumps into the “cooler” window is cooling and condensing, allowing for the those droplets to form. Basically, with dewpoints in the mid 70s, we have some Deep South humidity in place as it’ll feel Florida-ish the next several days.
It’s the combination of the heat and humidity that’s the issue this afternoon. With dewpoints in the 70s and air temps heading into the mid 90s, the heat index will likely crack 100 in many towns. That has prompted a heat advisory for much of southern New England that’s away from Buzzards Bay/Cape and Islands. There, a southwesterly wind off the water will hold down air temps in the mid to upper 80s, holding the heat index below 100.
The storm risk is low today, with just a isolated pop-up shower/storm possible in CT, RI and Southeast MA this afternoon. Although I tend to favor CT as the spot to see those. Isolated storms are possible tomorrow, but a bit more likely Saturday afternoon/evening, especially northwest of Boston. Sunday into Monday, the risk of showers and storms goes up as a front to our north wobbles in. If we can time out a wave of low pressure along that front, then a solid batch of some beneficial downpours is possible. We shall see!
