High and dry all the way through the weekend.  #IMHO, this is the way summer weather should be!  We’ll take the heat – but it’s all the more enjoyable without the humidity.  The big blue “H” is in control now, and will remain in control, through Monday.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the “H” on our weather maps stands for “high pressure,” but I also think it stands for “happy.”  Thank you, Mother Nature, for another top-10 weekend!  A+

If you liked today, you’ll love tomorrow.  Temps will even be a couple/few degrees warmer; well into the 80s and even flirting with 90° in some spots!  Whoa, whoa, hold on a second.  I know what some of you might be thinking:  WHAT heat?!  WHAT 80-degree temps?!  Those of you who didn’t feel the heat today are likely located along the coastline, or you chose to not vacate your den/man-cave where the AC was on full-blast all day.  NO, the temps at the coastline didn’t make into the 80s today.  In fact, as I type this, Boston is sitting at 68°!  With a breeze off the ocean, that can feel pretty cool!  The sea breeze can really skunk the temps along the coastline this time of year.  Here’s a little pictogram-explainer for you of why our sea breeze forms this time of year:  In short, the difference in temperature between the air over the warm land and the air over the cool ocean water (running in the low 60s) causes the on-shore flow of the “cooler” air.  In order to kick out the sea breeze, we’d need a westerly wind component that’s stronger than 10-15mph (generally speaking).  You may have already known the science behind the sea breeze… Or you may have been completely enlightened and educated by my little rant just now… Either way, if you’ve lived here for more than 1 spring/summer season – you’re used to this being the case… and you’re used to seeing “Cooler Coast” on the extended forecast.

The sea breeze will again keep coastal temps (including beaches) in the 70s tomorrow afternoon.  Away from the coastline, things heat up.  And again it’s a “dry” heat, relatively speaking.  That is to say, humidity is staying in the “comfortable” zone.  We talk a lot about dewpoints being a measure of how much moisture is in the air… much more useful than “relative humidity.”  That’s another blog for another day, but I will give you this:  Dewpoints in the 40s to near 50° is manageable and considered “comfortable.”  Dewpoints in the 60s to 70° is getting pretty “frizzy,” and feeling more “tropical.”  We’ll have dewpoints in the low 50s again tomorrow, making the “Frizz Factor” a NON factor.  ****PLEASE NOTE, this is the DEWPOINT trend – this is different from air temperature!  This is a measure of moisture in the air = the higher the dewpoint, the more moisture in the air.

Humidity will start to increase a touch on Monday, and highs will also be a touch warmer… but it’s really Tuesday that things start to feel more “hot, hazy and humid.”  This is also our next chance to squeeze out any of that much needed rainfall.  However, this doesn’t look like the all-day dousing we could use, but rather scattered storms that move through late in the day and again on Wednesday.  Still, every raindrop counts, right?

If you liked today… Enjoy tomorrow!  Happy Summer!  – Breezy
