Frank sent me an email last night to tell me why I had that Willy Wonka quote stuck in my head last night; “Bubbles, bubbles everywhere but not a drop to drink!” It’s apparently a play off of a line from an old mariner poem by S.T.Coleridge:
“Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.”
Thanks for the tip, Frank! It was a bit like our day today… with hit and miss (mostly miss) showers and downpours tracking through. A few of us saw this short-lived wet-weather, but most of us missed it completely. Boston managed to stay dry today, which means we’re still at 3.92″ of precip for Meteorological Summer, and still sitting at #1 on the list of “driest summers on record.” Now we wait to see what Monday has in store…
The main theme of the day was HOT and HUMID! Highs did manage to make it up to 90° in many spots, Boston included. Add to that the “ew” points, or dew points (a measure of humidity) and it felt like we all took a tropical vacation to Florida. Seriously though and I said it earlier tonight, today’s weather reminded me of my days working in the EPCOT parking lot. Yes, seriously, that happened. No, I wasn’t a princess when I worked at Disney World – unless you consider the parking lot tram driver dressed in yellow stripes, a skort and a reflective vest, a “princess.” Look, it’s hard for me to dig up these old memories, okay?! I’ll just say, when you’re stuck in the parking lot, it can feel like your dreams are so far away…
Wow, I definitely got off-topic there. Back on track: Humidity clears out overnight tonight and high pressure moving in sets us up for a fantastic weekend! We will have an on-shore wind both Saturday and Sunday, keeping coastal temps a bit cooler (upper 70s to low 80s) but inland highs will be in the mid 80s both days, and dewp’s stay in the “comfortable zone.” Whatever you have planned for the weekend, I hope it’s outside! This is, after all, the last weekend of Meteorological Summer!
