Wow, some schools start today! It’s hard to believe that the summer is coming to a close as the months of June, July and August seem just to fly on by. With that said, if your kids aren’t back in school this week and you’re on vacation, the weather looks good for those outdoor plans and back to school shopping.

It’s a warm start to the morning with temperatures running close to 70 degrees, on our way close to 90 the afternoon. We also start off with a bit of mugginess, but by mid to later afternoon, that humidity lowers with the wind turning from the southwest to the northwest. That drier air will produce less cloud cover mid to later afternoon as well. Despite a cool front crossing this morning, there’s not much of a shower or thunder threat as moisture is limited. A couple of brief, spotty showers may pop, but 90% of the area will miss out on it. If we hit 90 in Boston, it’ll be the 20th time we’ve done so this year.

A better chance for showers/storms enters southern New England Wednesday evening – Thursday morning along and behind a cool front.  Other than that, we’re in another dry week.

If you’re looking for a taste of Fall, we’ll catch a bit of it from Thursday night into Saturday morning. Temps slowly warm a few degrees through the holiday weekend as we remain dry. Many towns run in the mid to upper 70s Saturday and end the weekend (Monday) well into the 80s.

In the tropics, Hurricane Gaston is a major hurricane this morning with winds of 120mph. It stays well out to sea but produces large swells that’ll create rip currents across the east coast. Careful of that the next few days if you’re heading to the beach.

Tropical depressions 8 and 9 are expected to become tropical storms and impact the U.S. with heavy rain the main threat.
