We’ll we’re off and running: 1.5″ for Worcester today and the first measurable snowfall for Boston this morning at 0.3″. It wasn’t a lot of snow for anyone, with most totals between a coating to 2″ (a few just a little over, like Hopkinton with 2.2″). However, it really was the timing of the first snowfall of the season that was the problem; right during the morning commute. This was just practice, as we could be in for another messy, wintry-mix commute on Wednesday morning. But before we get to that, check out this great picture from Lincoln, MA!

Now, on to the forecast: We have mostly clear skies through tonight, and temps will drop into the mid to upper 20s for most. That means that whatever is left wet and untreated overnight tonight will likely refreeze for tomorrow morning. Watch out for the driveways and sidewalks and gutters! Main roadways for tomorrow morning’s commute should be just fine. Tuesday will be a dry day with mostly sunny skies for the better part of the day. Highs top out in the low 40s for most, which is just a touch below “normal” for this time of year (normal high for Boston is 45°). Clouds will move in during the afternoon and evening ahead of our next potential winter-weather maker…
Wednesday’s set-up is very similar to today – not getting the brunt of any system, but rather getting sort of squashed in the middle. So, precip is expected to be light – but it is expected. Timeline looks to be through the early hours of Wednesday morning until about 8am. Temps are marginally close to freezing, but we could still see some wintry-mix, snow and slick spots for the morning commute. I do think it will be less snow accumulation than today, but the best chance for a coating to 1″ will be points N & W of 495.
The biggest story of this week’s forecast is the “polar plunge” that’s in store for us. Arctic air is spilling in for almost all of the lower 48 this week. Well, at least we’re not alone with this frigid feeling. We’ll really start to feel the chill on Friday when highs struggle to make it past freezing, and come Saturday morning we’re in the TEENS. Not to mention, there’s a blustery wind to add insult to injury. Looking beyond this frigid weekend, there’s something brewing for late Sunday into Monday. Stay tuned for details… Have a great week! – Breezy
Oh, and here’s one more picture for this Monday – which comes from the “Haha. Enjoy your snow. I’m in Paradise” file (thanks, Shari!):
