Ever spend anytime in southern California?  The pattern that allows the marine layer to produce plenty of low clouds in late Spring out that way is known as “June Gloom” (Danielle Gersh knows this one well).

So why do I bring that up?  We have our own version of June Gloom this morning as plenty of low clouds have formed thanks to a persistent flow off the ocean and lots of low level moisture that has cooled and condensed.  The low deck of clouds, although tough to break, can shrink in coverage area during the late morning and early afternoon as the high early June sun angle gets to work.  With that said, low clouds tend to break slowest along the coast, and it’s possible that a few patches of low clouds and fog are still out there this afternoon near the coast.  Highs today will be all over the place, from near 60 in Boston and along the coast to near 80 deep inland.

Low clouds and fog fill back in tonight before a few showers roll through Friday.  I don’t expect a lot of rain Friday, just a few scattered showers, meaning you’ll catch your dry stretches of the day out there too.  Winds turn more southerly through the day, allowing temps to rebound into the low to mid 70s. Even a few breaks of sun are likely in the afternoon.

The pick of the weekend is Saturday.  Low 80s inland, 70s at the coast.  While Sunday likely starts dry, there’s a good bet for rain to develop by the afternoon with the heaviest rain late afternoon into the evening.  0.50-1.00″ of widespread rain is likely with this round of rain.
