Well that was certainly not too shabby for our first widespread snow of the season!  Many locations picked up between 5-7″ with a few spots coming in right around 8″!  It made for a great Sunday to get out and play (or shovel), build snowmen (or decorate for the holidays), and just enjoy a winter wonderland (or stay inside and enjoy a hot beverage).  Temps were stuck in the 30s, but still made it above freezing… Plus, the sunshine also did a little bit of work on that snow today… We know it’s that time of year when it’s important to remember that what was melted or wet this afternoon will be freezing over tonight.  Temps will lower to the mid 20s for most, which does lead to the concern of patchy black ice through tomorrow morning.  Use caution on the sidewalks, driveways – in the parking lots at work, etc.

Anyone watch the Bills game in Buffalo today?  If you missed it, here’s what it looked like (according to Twitter):

That was some intense lake-effect snow for them today.  We could tap into a few of those flakes overnight tonight or early tomorrow morning, but it won’t look anything like that for us.  If any flurries or snow showers move through, they will be isolated in nature and shouldn’t amount to additional snow accumulation.  Just giving you a heads up that it is a possibility tonight.

We’ll start Monday with cloudy skies and maybe even a lingering flurry.  Clouds will clear gradually for a partly cloudy afternoon.  Highs stay in the 30s again… #WinterisHere and not going anywhere anytime soon.

The next round of snow/mix/rain arrives early Tuesday morning and continues through the day.  It may start as snow showers, moving in west to east – but it looks as though the track of this Clipper will be just along the Mass Pike (or just north), which will allow for milder air to chew away at that snow and push the rain/snow line back N&W of 495 fairly early on.  That means areas like Boston (and S&E) may see some wet snow to start… perhaps a light slushy coating (slight chance) before changing to all rain.  Any accumulating snow will be more likely N&W of 495 – and even more so for Central and Northern New England.  Here’s the snowfall forecast:

It’s possible that some shallow cold air wants to hang on (cold air is more dense than warm air) which could lead to some icing concerns for the Tuesday morning commute.  This is a forecast that we want to stay on top of… so we’ll be sure to keep you posted with any updates.  A Winter Storm Watch is posted for areas north of the Bay State – where heavy snow is more likely.  Again, this is for late Monday through late Tuesday and it means we’re “watching out” for that potential. This “watch” will eventually change to a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Weather Advisory at some point tomorrow.

After highs climb into the low 40s (spots on the Cape may even flirt with 50) on Tuesday, we’ll “bring it back down to winter-town!”  You see the forecast has mid to upper 20s for highs on Wednesday and Thursday – but that may be optimistic.  It’s COLD.  Also, it looks likely there could be some snow showers in store for Friday – but we’ll take this one day at a time for now…  :c)  – Breezy
